The Pittsburg Steelers were known as the Pirates until 1940, the Steelers are now the seventh oldest franchise in the NFL. The Steelers were founded in 1933 by Arthur J. Rooney. The Steelers struggles for the first 40 years of their existence, but eventually turned things around in 1972 when they were able to win a division title and a Super Bowl IX victory.
