Pre-Screening, Collection, and Safety

Wharton’s Jelly is a minimally manipulated flowable human allograft developed from eligible human umbilical cord tissue. It contains the highest therapeutics quality bioactive biomolecules of Wharton’s Jelly-derived stem cells and its extracellular matrix. These molecules are found to exhibit immunomodulatory properties and recruit native stem cells to initiate healing and regeneration of damaged tissue. Our proprietary method ensures the highest quality of our product and preserves its therapeutic value.

MSK Physiotherapy aims to help you improve and manage problems that affect muscles, joints and soft tissues like ligaments and tendons.

Wharton’s Derived from?

Wharton’s jelly cells are derived from the inner jelly substance in the umbilical cord from a healthy cesarian delivery. (Full Pre Screened to meet very stringent guidelines). Wharton’s jelly cells are isolated from a single donor. These cells have characteristics of MSCs and are widely investigated for their use in therapeutic applications. These cells enable researchers to investigate stem cell properties, regenerative medicine, and tissue engineering. In addition, they may be used for developmental studies.
Development period: Postnatal

Wharton’s Jelly Derived Mesenchymal Stem Cells: Future of Regenerative Medicine? Recent Findings and Clinical Significance

Abstract

The Wharton’s jelly of the umbilical cord contains mucoid connective tissue and fibroblast-like cells. Using flow cytometric analysis, we found that mesenchymal cells isolated from the umbilical cord express matrix receptors (CD44, CD105) and integrin markers (CD29, CD51) but not hematopoietic lineage markers (CD34, CD45). Interestingly, these cells also express significant amounts of mesenchymal stem cell markers (SH2, SH3). We therefore investigated the potential of these cells to differentiate into cardiomyocytes by treating them with 5-azacytidine or by culturing them in cardiomyocyte-conditioned medium and found that both sets of conditions resulted in the expression of cardiomyocyte markers, namely N-cadherin and cardiac troponin I. We also showed that these cells have multilineage potential and that, under suitable culture conditions, are able to differentiate into cells of the adipogenic and osteogenic lineages. These findings may have a significant impact on studies of early human cardiac differentiation, functional genomics, pharmacological testing, cell therapy, and tissue engineering by helping to eliminate worrying ethical and technical issues.

FAQs

What is Wharton's Jelly?

Wharton's jelly is a gelatinous substance within the umbilical cord, largely made up of mucopolysaccharides. It acts as a mucous connective tissue containing some fibroblasts and macrophages, and is derived from extra-embryonic mesoder

Isolation Efficiency: Number Does Matter

Most of the clinical applications of MSC require a large number of cells for transplantation. Therefore, abundance, easiness of isolation, and proliferative potential may be deciding factors while choosing a source of MSC. The amount of mesenchymal stem cells, which can be obtained from bone marrow, is very limiting. Only 0.001 to 0.01% of mononuclear cells were reported

Manufacturing

The experts process eligible umbilical cords and placenta tissue in our state of the art ISO Class 3 laboratory facility to develop non-embryonic stem cell-derived products. We use our minimally manipulative proprietary techniques to extract valuable bioactive biomolecules from the Wharton’s Jelly stem cells and its extracellular matrix following FDA tissue guidelines, current good manufacturing practice (cGMP), and current good tissue practice (cGTP). Our technology allows us to achieve high levels of quality, purity, potency, viability, reproducibility (batch to batch consistency), and safety. The result is extremely high quality, effective clinical grade stem cell-derived products.

Testing

Consistent quality is our main goal. Our products undergo extensive in-house and third-party laboratory quality control and validation testing through universities to meet our quality standards. Only qualified products are distributed to doctors and clinics nationwide.

Storage

Injectables need to be stored below a minimum of -80˚C using either a cryo-freezer or a liquid nitrogen freezer. Freezing and thawing process is stressful to biological products and they can cause complete loss of potency if done incorrectly. To overcome this problem, we have successfully developed proprietary fluidless rate controlled freezing, packaging, and shipping techniques to preserve the integrity and potency of our products to its maximum. For best results, we also recommend clinicians to thaw  products at room temperature (counter thawing).
