Selecting an AR Coating |
AR Coatings: Anti Reflective coatings allow more light to pass through a lens instead of reflecting off of it. (Normally 4% of light will be reflected off the front of the lens, then another 4% will be reflected inside the lens by the back surface.) An AR coating prevents glare and the “starburst effect” from light bouncing back and forth inside the lens. An AR Coating is very highly recommended for all Clear or Transitions lenses. A backside AR Coating on sunglasses will keep UV light from reflecting off the back of the lens and into your eye. This is most important on flatter models that are more likely to be in the path of the sun, and for bicyclists, fishermen, and people who are more likely to have the sun (or reflected light) behind them. This is also critical for people who are in sunlight for extended periods of time. Our Standard AR Coating allows most of the color spectrum through the lens; provides better scratch resistance; makes the lens more hydrophobic (repels water); and minimizes fogging. The Premium AR Coating does all these same things even better, and allows a broader portion of the color spectrum through the lens. Summary: Our Standard AR Coating is very impressive. The Premium coating is even better. |
